On February 13, 1777, Thomas Johnson of Frederick was elected the first
governor of Maryland.

On February 13, 1837, William Schley and William Cost Johnson, both
prominent Fredericktonians, fought a duel at Alexandria, VA.

On February 13, 1906, George Carlton Rhoderick, Sr., who began work at The
Catoctin Whig, later The Valley Register, at the age of 9 and remained there
for 51 years, died in Middletown. He was buried in the cemetery adjoining
the Lutheran Church there. He was born May 5, 1835.
