Whilst on the subject of deaths at sea. They would appear on crew agreements
held at the National Archives
e.g.
BT 98/507 Port of Registry ~ Swansea Ships Names ~ A-G 1835-1844
BT 98/508 Port of Registry ~ Swansea Ships Names ~ H-Z 1835-1844
Completely indexed on my website. Crew agreements for other ports exist
under the BT98 series.

Deaths at sea or the port of St,Jago de Cuba of crew onboard Swansea
Registered ships. One can see from the
list below how deadly St.jago de Cuba was. It in 1865 the cause of an
epidemic of Yellow Fever
brought into Swansea in the cargo.
Note the crew lists were archived under Port Rotation No.s. To get the
Port No.s andd the correct ship
compare the Master on the crew list with that on the Custom House Register
at time of survey or thos listed in
subsequent endorsements to the register. From 1845 Port No.2 were included
making it easier to refer to the
Custom House Register.
