Thanks Adi very much for trying. I think this is destined to be a brick wall for my brick maker!

Hello Susan,

Well it couldn't quite be "in the middle of the ocean in American waters" (grin); no country's territorial limits are that extensive. I really was hoping the father's occupation was shipmaster in order to give you the ship's name too, but a brickmaker .... that's tough to trace. Pity - there were several mentions of "Nickells" as shipmasters, but no joy for your query. I searched up to 1850 for various spellings of Nickalls, and then up to 1840 for Nickalls (fuzzy search) +brickmaker. Sorry I couldn't help.

Regards,
Adi

The first 3 children (she was the 3rd which is why I think they may have been on their way home) were born in the US. All 3 were recorded in the Bethel Baptist Church records at Brabourne with dates of birth given for each (source LDS parish records.) Parents were George and Mary Nickalls and they would have been travelling with 2 older children. George was a brickmaker but don't know why they went to the US or why they came home. One branch of the family thinks Mary Ann was born on the Mississippi river, another branch thinks she was born in the middle of the ocean in American waters.
