Hello Joanne,

The Caledonian Mercury carried the following report on Saturday the 10 October 1818, quoting Lloyd's List of the 6th:
"The Rothiemurchus, Dibbs, of and from Leith to Petersburgh, was driven on shore on Gothland 15th ult. and it was feared would got be got off.  The materials, &c. expected to be saved."
A week later the same paper printed the following:  "The Rothiemurchus, John Dibbs, of Leith, for St. Petersburgh, in ballast, was wrecked on Naas Reef, Gothand, the 15th Sept. crew and stores saved."

I can find no reference to Rothiemurchas in the Lloyd's registers of 1813 to 1815, but in both editions of the 1818 register "Rothimurkas" or "Rothiernucus" was listed under a captain G. Watson.  She had been built in 1812, rated at 322 tons, and was owned by Watson & Co.  She was then listed as having been surveyed at Leith, and was sailing for Quebec.

Regards,

Peter Klein

Dear List,

I would be grateful for any information on the ship "Rothiemurchus" which
was wrecked in October 1818 on its way from Leith, Scotland to
St.Petersburgh.  John Dibbs was Master at the time.

Also any information on the shipwreck.

With many thanks,

Joanne. (nee Dibbs)
