NY Gen and Bio Records v 76 p 106 gives this account: "David Godfrey's
title (Captain) came from his occupation. He was a seaman, probably a
ship's captain. In
his youth he was a sailor and made fourteen voyages to the West Indies and
several to South America--how many as Captain we have no means of
ascertaining."
He was born on Cape Cod but his parents moved to CT when he was young. It
is presumed that he would have served out of Connecticut, USA.
With no more information, is it possible to verify this story? Any
suggestions are
appreciated. Virginia
