Hi Marge,
Thank you for your post and relevant details.
Could you please provide a source citation for the extensive land records included in your post on Gabriel Wheldon.
Also, what evidence is there that connects or links this particular Gabriel Wheldon of Basford, Nottinghamshire, to the Gabriel Wheldon of Yarmouth and Malden, who later, along with his son John, sold land in Arnold Parish, Nottinghamsire to William Crofts of Lynn, Essex, MA. in 1653?
Gabriel Wheldon of Basford, made no mention of any urgency in completing the land transactions (as late as 24 Mar 1638) in consideration of his imminent removal to New England (as did Henry Boote previously). Are you saying that it was he who immigrated to New England bef 3 Sep 1638 when he was granted land and permission to dwell at Mattacheese [PCR 1:95]? If so, he tied up any loose ends, crossed the Atlantic and petitioned for land on Cape Cod all within a 5 month time period. Not impossible, but something to consider. The crossing alone might have taken up to 3 months.
Or was Gabriel Wheldon of Basford an entirely different individual who happened to have the same name?
There appear to have been footnotes included in the text, but they did not transfer.
I will look forward to any clarification in this regard.
Regards,
Pam Sears
