I have been chasing details on [GOULD] line of my family since 1996 and it has been one of the hardest ones to research . . . almost harder than my Irish roots. Hopefully some of the bits and pieces below help. I'm still chasing on this one.
The only ones I was able to find were Horace Emery and George Edwin. One of my Uncle's middle names is Emery . ..that I found in your file, so now I know a bit more about where the name came from.
I know Edwin Gould's (b. 14 May 1822) father was named Joseph and the information below indicates his wife was named Mary, but family records indicate Polly, and I have stumbled across Polly in several places. Per family records and my Great Aunt Alice's notes there were only two brothers and they owned a farm/Gould home somewhere in your area? Below is some additional info I have found.
Appears in the Massachusetts 1820 and 1830 census. Mentioned in Townsend VR under marriage for Edwin Gould and Arville Mary Woodward as parent with Mary of Edwin Gould. Private records abstractly mention death dates for a Joseph and Polly Gould, but don't state clearly if these are the correct parents. Buried in Tomson's Cemetery in Tyngsboro or Dunstable.
GOULD, Joseph, spouse: Polly Smith; marriage Date: June 5, 1806 in Westford, MA (Vital Records of Westford)
Your data [http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=westford&id=I1512] was the first time I have been able to confirm what I extracted from family notes, pictures, etc. If I had started on this before 1985, I know I could tell you. My Grandmothers family bible disappeared and I remember seeing his name in it when I was a little kid. My Great Aunt Alice's notes focus more on the immediate family. Next time I'm at my mothers place I'll search some more and continue to ask about the family bible. Many of my mysteries could be resolved, if I had that book.
I'm still struggling with Edwin's Ancestors. Since George Edwin Gould (b. 22 June 1854, Townsend or Tyngsboro, MA. Can't find his death record since he disappeared (see following family note).
George was a Teamster according to the birth records of Alice Russell Gould (My Great Aunt Alice . . .I knew her very well . . .very tough and strict lady). He lived in Westford. Apparently separated from Dora in the 1890's, kidnapping Belle May (My Great Grandmother, I didn't know her) and moving to the Dakotas. The Child was later recovered.
These were the only children of George Edwin Gould and Dora Capen Russell (b. 16 Nov 1853, Chelmsford, MA d. 12 Jul 1920, Bristol, Connecticut - buried in Chelmsford, Massachusetts m. ???) Family note: Dora talks of Great Grandmother Sybil in a letter
