I have a startlingly similar story and wonder if there can possibly be a connection.
Mine concerns Peter Lumsden. He was in Suva, in the Fiji Islands in 1913 where he fathered twin daughters ( Elvera and Dolores. He was not allowed to marry the girls' mother. I don't know why and why he left the island and we have never been able to find him again. The girls' mother Louise had a photo of him and it seems he was a merchant seaman, an engineer. It was thought he came from New Zealand, but this might just have been the ship he was on.
I don't suppose there is a connection but I thought you might be interested.
