1864 in Caswell Co.

Notes for Nicholas Lovelace:
It is not known for sure that Nicholas is the son of Roadham Lovelace,
but all the records I've researched would indicate that he is very likely
Roadham's son. His marriage bondman (1st marr.) was Brewis Lovelace son of
Roadham. He later married Celia Strader a neighbor of several of Roadham's
family members. And he fits into the age grouping of the children listed for
Roadham in the 1820 Census. Draw your own conclusions but for now it looks
sound (until proven otherwise).
Some descendants give the name for Nicholas as Nicodemus Lovelace but records
researched refer to him as Nicholas. [My Aunt Esther Perkins Lovelace named
her son Nicodemus after Nicholas who was called "Nick." I guess the name Nick
caused some confusion on what the name actually was.]
The 1850 census of Caswell Co., N.C. lists the following household: Nicholas
Lovelass age 55, farmer, born Maryland; Matilda age 53, b. Maryland; Nancy age
25, b. NC; Matilda age 18, b. NC; and Elizabeth age 15, b. NC.
The 1880 census of Caswell County gives the age of Nicholas as 83, born circa
1797 in Washington, D.C. Others in the household are: Celia Lovelace age 42,
b. NC; John Lovelace age 14, b. NC; David Lovelace age 12, b. NC; Polly
Strater age 51, b. NC, sister-in-law; Betsy Smithy age 40, b. NC, daughter.
