Terry,
I am so happy to finally find someone interested in Liberty Hill besides me.
In 1812, a son was born there to John and Frances [Thurmond] Lyon and they
named him Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" Lyon. In 1835, Jeff married one of Leonard
Wideman Jr.'s daughters & moved to a 350 acre tract he bought on the old
McCormick-Troy road, near where John Calvin lives today. Jeff was a
magistrate for Abbeville district and also Postmaster for Indian Hill from
1850? until his death in 1859. Jeff is buried on that road, a mere 10-15
miles from his birthplace. I cannot confirm his parents, but circumstantial
evidence is so strong as to be almost proof.
Buried in the Troy cemetery are a bunch of Jeff's kids and grands close to
Talberts and Finleys. Buried near my cousins Paul and Lillie Bradley Lyon are
Jacob Edwards and his wife Minnie Bell Talbert Edwards [1899-1987]. Are they
any kin to your Minnie Findley Talbert [1890-1943]? You didnt say where your
Minnie and Joseph were buried.
Do you have a copy of Willie Mae Wood's [of McCormick] first book which is
full of Talberts? If not, find a copy in your liberry. I cant find my copy
rite now. Ren Bradley
