What I've noticed about SPAM is that it's like an incoming tide. In other
words, the amount goes up and down, but the general trend is always towards
MORE. I remember the good old days when there was NONE! The first spam was
sort of shocking -- it felt like a home invasion robbery. We have all gotten
so used to seeing it now, it is hardly a topic of discussion.
I get about 200 a day, at this point. My address has been "out there" for a
good long time, my address is in lots of addressbooks of people who don't
protect from viruses, spyware and trojans, and on and on. We make the spam
filters better, they figure out ways to get around it.
Until Congress grows the spine to make spam illegal, we'll all have to deal
with increasing amounts of it, and pay that cost. It is estimated that
between 75% and 95% of all email sent is SPAM.
The change from Smartlist to Mailman has *nothing* to do with the increase of
spam to our individual addresses.
