Subject: Re: [LIST-UPDATE] Thoughts from a VERY educated list user
Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2006 13:02:09 EDT
In a message dated 8/17/2006 12:42:21 PM Eastern Standard Time,
I subscribed to this list when I, as an ordinary subscriber, was informed of
the list migration. I have read almost every message posted here, some
repeatedly due to duplicates. I want to say THANK YOU to almost everyone who
has posted here, especially several that were "off topic". I know almost
nothing about using lists. By reading what has been posted here I have learned to
filter my incoming email and now proudly have a box just for this list. I
have learned that unsubbing is NOT understood by a large number of people and
that possibly the addition of the words "the ONLY way to unsubscribe" etc.
might catch the eye better. Who knows?
I now have a question. Can anyone recommend a site or other information
source for learning how to use mailing lists, RootsWeb lists specifically. I
think I am missing out on a lot of good information.
I have a suggestion for you--you may not feel you are ready for this but
please consider it..
You seem interested in learning new things and you listen to what is being
said--so you will learn quickly. My suggestion?
Find a list on the list of adoptable lists, or request the creation of a
list for a topic of interest to you that does not already exist at RootsWeb and
request to admin the list. Once you have done this (become an admin) then
you can subscribe to the listowners list. You will learn quite a bit in that
manner and help your own research and possible that of others as well. You
are just the type of person needed at RootsWeb as a list admin. You can find a
list of adoptable mailing lists here:
