Hello Pam

To add to Tony's info the 1881 census which is free on
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/ has
James Leeming - 43, Lavinia Leeming 46, Sarah E. 20, John 19, Mary A. 14,
Susannah 12, Elizabeth 10, and Ada 5.
I looked in the 1871 census and found the family but John wasn't with them
at that time. He would have been 9 and may have been away in school or
visiting other relatives, or boarding with someone.

In 1891 census John is living at home with James and Lavinia and their
daughters, Mary Ann, Susannah, Elizabeth and Ada Clayton. John is listed as
a widower. It is noteworthy here that the place of birth for all the
children has been changed from Clitheroe as it was in the 1881 census to Low
Moor. John's occupation is listed as a cotton sizer.


In 1901 John is married to Jane. Children James K. John, and Louis. This is
a best guess but the place of birth Low Moor, the profession Cotton sizer,
and the age all match. They are also still living in Clitheroe.

In 1911 census, John is still married to Jane - married 19 years. Children
James King, John, and Louis. Also note that looking at the image for the
1911 census it indicates the John and Jane had 4 children and that one died.
Although that is all the information it gives and since another child
doesn't show up on the 1901 census it could be assumed that the child was
born and died in between censuses.

So I don't know where Sarah Turner fits in. That's the only thing that
doesn't seem to fit. Depends on whether you are more confident in the John's
parents info or his wife info. Based on FreeBMD John married Jane King -
June 1892 in Clitheroe. This fits as John's first son was names James King
Leeming. James after his father and King after his wife's maiden name. There
are two marriages in Clitheroe listed for a James, one in 1886 and one in
1889. Both are to Sarah's. The first is Sarah Isabella Elliott and the
second is to Sarah Hitchon. There is a death for a Sarah Leeming - age 24 in
Clitheroe - December 1/4 - 1889. There is a Sarah Hitchon, aged 16 living in
Grindelton in 1881 census. She was also a cotton weaver and the census place
was Clitheroe so that might be the correct match. Again you would have to
order the marriage and death certificates to know for sure.

For James. Based on FreeBMD he married Lavine/Lavina Hine in the June
quarter 1859 in Bury - Vol 8c page 411. You would need to order the marriage
certificate for them to see who it lists as Jame's father. Based on the 1851
census it 'could' be Ralph Leeming but the marriage cert would tell you that
for sure.
