Pat - I don't know if this is your James Leeds or not, but when what is now called Jimmie Leeds Road was first laid out in 1826, the road began at "a stake in the middle of the road leading from Absecon Bridge to Tanners Brook known by the main [sic] Shore Road between Parker & Daniel Cordery's and James Leeds and James Smith near the said Jas. Leeds shoemakers shop", and ran from there to the road leading from Absecon to Cedar Bridge. Gloucester County Road Book C, pp. 65-67. A map accompanying the road return shows James Leeds located on the corner on west side of Shore Road and north of the new road. The road got it's name before 1839 when a deed from Peter Boice Sr. to Peter Boice Jr. mentioned "what is called the James Leeds road". Atl. Co. Deeds D:291. The 1872 Beers map of Atlantic County doesn't show anyone named Leeds in the area where Jimmie Leeds Road meets Shore Road. The nearest residents identified are C.W. Mathews, Geo. Mathews, E. Ivins, A. Adams & P. Boice.

Hope this helps. If you want copies of any of these records, let me know.

Jerry
