This is definitely taking a strange turn. I know that my Leander Leber, wife Mary and two children immigrated to the U.S. in 1854 from Switzerland. I don't know the port of entry. Family tradition says they came from Bern, Switzerland, but that is not necessarily where they lived in Switzerland. The early US census after immigration has Leander saying he was born in Saxony, Germany. I suspect their stay in Switzerland was short (one to several years) before leaving for the US.

Leander's wife Mary died in 1864. Their last child, my ggrandfather John was born in 1858. Family tradition has them living just outside of St. Louis near Union or Gray Summit.

I believe at least some of the Leber's you mentioned lived near by.

There is no definitive proof yet that our Leber's are related, but a mounting seemingly coincidental evidence makes it seem more probable and worth digging further into.
