Elvin D. Leavell, 86, of Nampa, passed away at a Nampa hospital on Monday, January 23, 2006. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the College Church of the Nazarene, 504 E. Dewey Ave., Nampa. A private family burial will precede the memorial service at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. The family will greet loved ones and friends at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa 466-3545 on Friday evening from 7 8:30 p.m. Elvin was born on October 8, 1919 in Nampa, Idaho, the son of Otto Ray and Grace (McElroy) Leavell. He was reared and educated in Idaho. He attended Northwest Nazarene University and graduated from the University of Oregon and Nazarene Theological Seminary. He married J. Beatrice Maxey on November 2, 1942. They pastored in the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City; Helena, Mont., Newport, Ore.; Terra Bella, Calif. and Portland, Ore. Elvin served as a Navy Chaplain for 20 years. Beatrice!
preceded him in death on February 20, 2005 and he married Wilma Borah on September 3, 2005 in Nampa where they made their home. Elvin was a member of the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. Elvin enjoyed woodworking, reading, painting, archery, photography and writing. He also enjoyed teaching Sunday School, raising Arabian horses, his church and family. Elvin is survived by his wife, Wilma (Borah) Leavell, Nampa; his children and their spouses; Mark W. and Marybeth Leavell, Jonesboro, Georgia; Esther and Donald Mason, Nampa; Stephen K. and Linda Leavell, Vancouver, Washington; J. Timothy and Debby Leavell, Boise; and David R. and Ivonne Leavell, Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Northwest Nazarene University, 623 Holly St., Nampa, Idaho 83686.
