Does anyone have any information about the first wife of James Hewett
Workman? Ruth Halstead was his second wife. James H. was married in
1819 to (unknown) in Giles Co., VA although no records can be found.
His son, Amos, was born 1820 in Giles Co., VA so I assume James' first
wife died in childbirth.
Most of us have been assuming that Amos was the son of Ruth Halstead
and named for her father, Amos. That would not explain why Amos'
cousin, b 1826 (son of Joseph) was also named Amos. Also, I know there
were lots of girls married young, but having your first child at age
12 or 13 is pushing it a little.
I first heard of this unknown wife from Ralph Hall Sayre's book, SOME
BRANCHES OF THE WORKMAN TREE. I have since seen it referenced in THE
HISTORY OF BOONE COUNTY, WV, 1990.
Thanks for any help and everyone have a Happy Holiday.
Susie
