I am looking for information related to Frances J Painter of Rockbridge County Virginia born abt 1855 and married Charles Lawhorn of Nelson County Virginia. In particular, I am searching for information about Frances's mother who is listed as "Isabelle" in the Rockbridge marriage records. There is no mention of a spouse any where. I began wondering how Frances met Charles since the marriage record list him as "living" in Nelson County Virginia, but they were married in Rockbridge county. They are found in the 1880 census living in Nelson County. I began looking for Painter families in Nelson County along with Isabelle Painter. I thought that perhaps Frances had some kind of connection to Nelson county. I came across a family living in Nelson County in the 1860 census with a George Painter as the head of household and his wife polly. Also listed is Isabelle age about 29. Also listed are several children including a Mary F Painter age 4. I found this Isabelle living in South R!
iver Rockbridge County Virginia with several of her children in the 1900 and 1910 census. All of this seemed to fit the picture but no Frances J in the 1860 census or anywhere else with said Isabelle so I wasn't sure if I had the correct family. I started looking at records for Frances's children for clues. I was about to give up when I came across a WWI draft card for Frances's son Authur D Lawhorn. On this draft card, Arthur D list his mother as Mary Frances Lawhorn. I immediately started thinking that the family listed in the 1860 census for Nelson County Va with Isabelle Painter and Mary F Painter may be the correct family. Is it possible that the Mary F Painter age 4 on the 1860 census is Frances J Painter?? I could be barking up the wrong tree. If anyone has any info on Francis J Painter or her mother, I would greatly appreciate the help. Francis J Painter is my 3rd great grandmother.
