There are extensive legal records in St. Helena Parish, LA on the Wells family. Benjamin is the brother of Ruth Wells who married Samuel Lanier of my Lanier family. He is the son of 2nd wife of John Wells of Georgia, who died 24 Feb 1815 in St. Helena Parish, LA. He married (1) Jane Duhart [DeWitt?] Abt. 1785 in GA. He married (2) Susannah Y. Boykin Abt. 1790, daughter of William Boykin and Rachel. She was born in of Burke County, GA, and died 1846 in St. Helema Parish LA John had 10 children with his first wife and 6 with 2nd wife.
Father of Elizabeth, Thomas Splan gave consent in the marriage of April 20, 1817. In the 1816 succession of Sarah Flanagan in 1816, on 30 Dec.1816 Peyton Splane a son-in-law of decd, tract of land on W bank of Darlings Creek deeded by the Gov. of Baton Rouge [Spanish] West Florida to Ann Splane and Isiah Flanagan, only heirs of Sarah Flanagan.
In the 1816 succession of William Lee Sr., Peyton Splane is named as married to granddaughter of William Lee, Sr.
Ann Flanagan, wife of Peyton Splane is dau of Sarah mentioned above.
