For years I have been searching for information on Thomas M. Bell. Thomas married Euphrosine Lambert d/o Joseph Lambert and Theosite Vicknair on Feb 6, 1823 (it was a civil marriage), which leads me to believe that Thomas was not Catholic. Thomas first appeared in the 1830 census of St. Helena Parish with his wife and children. The census states he is from Virginia, occupation as a lumberer and estimates his year of birth as 1777. His children include 1) Mary Virginia bn. c1823 d. 2/5/1907 2)Thomas M. Bell, Jr. bn.1825 3) Mary Celeste (my Great-Great-Great Grandmother) bn. 3/27/1827 m. Francois Silvany Guedry 4)Joseph bn. 4/28/1829 5)Odile Marie bn. 5/1/1831 d. c1859 6) Jean bn.2/28/1832 7) James Ripley bn. 6/17/1835 d. 12/5/1921 8) twins Marie Pauline and Paul Joseph bn. 1/25/1839 9) Marie Elodie bn. 12/7/1841. Thomas and his family can be found in later census records living in Livingston Parish. Thomas died 1/3/1862 in Livingston Parish. When I was a boy, my grandmothe!
r told me stories of how we were part Irish, so I am going on the assumption that Thomas may have been living or born in Virginia but possibly could have been born in Ireland and immigrated to Virginia. I have been also trying to connect him to possibly receiving a military land grant after the War of 1812 or maybe he came with a lumbering company to St. Helena. Any help would be much appreciated, this line has been a mystery to me for many years.
