During the 1860's many families in KY and VA grabbed ahold of the
opportunity to settle Homestead Act land in Meeker County, Minnesota The
Ohio Land Company was instrumental in trying to convince people to move,
.and many other families followed in the 1870's and 80's...The following are
surnames on the 1870 Meeker County Census (Online) that came from Kentucky
and Virginia. In 1864 there was a large group that came from SW Virginia
Counties. The site also has an 1865 and 75 State Census online.
