I totally agree with Erin on giving the full citation when you send in helps...
in our quest to document our families,
it is important that all of the informaiton that we gather be recorded and
most importantly that it be clear enough that another researcher following in your path
would be able to find that specific record in the future...
So if you are getting the information from Ancestry but is is via a specific census roll
include Ancestry (or other REsource)
and
the official archives record/roll/page/ed etc etc. etc as the SOURCE
If you do a look up in a newspaper.
then official name of the paper,
date, page title of article and author, etc etc
roll number
and where you found it...
This includes on line links as well...
if you find something on say Erin's webpage, then cite that.
If you offer church records,
the entire line of information...
idnumber, page number, book number, official church name, everything, including the column headings if they are not clear....and the minister
and where these records were available....
I often see census results where I know that there shold be comments about available cash and whether a child is in school and these things are not being included...
Some of the people that are being helped depend on ALL of the information that is on the line as well as on the top of the page, including the township/postoffice date, and enumerator name...
This is all important......
If the person receiving the information cannot reconstruct the data,
then the data they receive must be considered HEARSAY....
