Your best bet is to try to find where those people went to church and look for church records. All my Kern's were Lutheran, so you are probably looking for a very old Lutheran Church where they lived (believe it or not some churches have kept very good records back that far). Illinois probably does not have a copy of a death certificate from 1890 (they were not required to be filed until 1916). Another bet would be to see if newspapers in the area were kept on microfilm back that far and look for these peoples obituaries for clues.
A good place to start would be to look for a Historic or Genealogical Society in the town or county they lived in for help.
