I noted your interest in the Kern family of Middlebury twp and Elkhart County Indiana. Henry W. Walters, on 1 January 1867 in Elkhart County, married Hariett Kern. John was born about 1831, probably in Fairfield Co. OH and raised on his father's farm in Middlebury Twp. John's sister Albertha McCrory later moved to Spink Co. SD., so perhaps there is a link. John's parents were George Walters and Mary Fuller Walters on whom I have more information.
