I'm looking for help or information from a Kern researcher.
John Petty, son of Joseph Petty and Anna GREGORY of Lehigh Township,
Northampton County, married Catherine KERN 13 May 1783, by Rev. Blumer
[although we haven't seen this record yet so it is not yet proven to us].
The land of Joseph Petty was on and directly across the Lehigh River
from the land of old Nicholas Kern Sr., in Heidelberg Township, now
Washington Township, Lehigh County. I understand Nicholas Kern's sons
William and John purchased that land from the other heirs of old
Nicholas--the other sons settled in various other places per the History
of Lehigh County.
The 1800 census says Catherine was born between 1755 and 1774.
John Petty bought a tract of land in 1784 in then Chesnuthill Township,
present-day Monroe County.
Of John and Catharine Petty's seven children, William PETTY, was born 19
January 1787 and baptized through Schlossers, in the Village of Neffs (or
his baptism record ended up in those records), present-day Lehigh County.
Another child, John PETTY, was born 12 November 1789 and that record was
found in the Moravian Congregation of Schoeneck in Upper Nazareth
Township, Northampton County. Mother was listed as Catherine KERN.
We understand that in addition to the Nicholas Kern descendants of Lehigh
County (who arrived in 1727 on the ship "Adventure"), there is another
Nicholas Kern (Carn/Cairn) family of Northampton County, unrelated to the
Lehigh County Kerns, that "arrived in Philadelphia in 1732 on the ship
"Pink Plaisance" and whose descendants stayed in current Northampton
County." We have copies of the Lehigh County History and the Kern
information contained in that history.
Does anyone recognize this Catherine KERN?
Always, Barbara in AZ
