Article in Philadelphia Inquirer, 16 Dec 1879:

A Wanderer -- A little boy named Frank Kern, aged eleven years, was taken yesterday to the office of te Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children by the matron of the Newsboys' Home. He has no mother and has been deserted by his father. He was found wandering about the streets in a destitute condition and with no shoes on his feet. The lad has been sent by the secretary of the society to St. John's Asylum.
