Maybe it is just a coincidence but my grandfather, Harry Charles Kern from Dade County, Illinois, had a father (named Kern) whose first name I can not figure out, also died in 1893 in Illinois. And maybe it is just a coincidence , that his name was Harry Charles Kern. Where did you find the record of Charles Kern dying in 1893? I do know that Harry Charles Kern's father died in some kind of industrial accident. The other names you mentioned for his children do not sound familiar.

Any help you could give me on Kerns in Illinois would be appreciated. Do you know if Charles Kern died in an accident?
