I am researching the Kern family in Town of Wayne, Washington County, WI. Mathias Kern and his wife, Katherina Amerling Kern, immigrated to the US in 1857 from Bohemia, Austria. Their children were: Joseph Kern (1856 - 1938), Mathias Kern (1859 - ?), Katharina Kern Marian (1860 - 1944), and John Kern (1867 - 1890).
