Hi, I just want to let you know my Kern family is very much German. Spoke it
also. The surname Kern is a very common last name in Germany, Austria and
Hungary like Smith and Jones in United States.

I am tracing the same family name my great great grandfather was a clerk in
a penal office in Ceylon his son born in 1855 came to New Zealand and there
started the New Zealand branch of Kerns. We always thought the name was
Scotish or Irish but I have meet with a block wall and records are hard to
find in Ceylon but it looks like the tree is either German or Dutch. Still
trying to find connections. He also married a girl with the name Charlotte
Harriet Christinez and I am not sure wheather she was Portugese or Indian.
Any suggestions?
