Surname: Kern, Kearn, Schwalbe, Benson
-------------------------
Well, I'm not sure if he's the same guy, but it isn't entirely impossible.
The Andrew Kern (spelled three different ways: Andrew, Andreas, Kern, Kearn)
had his first child with my great grandmother Augusta Alvina Schwalbe when
he was 73 years old according to my data. I have just recently found a
relative in Iowa who is in his early 20's and is going to college and his
grandmother is one of the daughters of Andrew Kern and Augusta Alvina Schwalbe.
So we have the same ancestors. He has more information than I do on the
two families and I'm actually waiting in great suspense to get more of
it.
I do not have a middle name for Andrew, however, that's not to say that
he didn't have one. I know that he is burried next to his supposed first
wife "Mary" (no surname) in Cass County Nebraska. I have an obituary on
him in 1913 and it's pretty vague. If you give me an address and/or fax
number I could just zip it over to you.
Also, here's the most current information that I have on the two individuals
that I have spoke about:
Andrew Kern (aka Andreas, Kearn)
B: July 29, 1823 in Baden Co., Germany
M: ?
D: May 5, 1913 in Plattsmouth (Cass County), Nebraska
Augusta Alvina Schwalbe (aka Agusta Alvina Schwalbe)
B: July 26, 1863 in Weissen Kirschutz Bohemia, Germany
M: ?
D: February 2, 1943 in Omaha (Douglas County), Nebraska
They had four children, the younger two were put up for adoption, the youngest
daughter is my grandmother:
Andrew Kern, Jr.
B: April 9, 1896 in Cass County, Nebraska
M: ?
D: April 30, 1970 in Minden, Nebraska
Augusta Alvina Martha Kern
B: July 4, 1897 in Nebraska
M: ?
D: August 4, 1996 in ?
Ella Helen Kern (aka Ella Helen Marie Hagemeier)
B: December 24 or 26, 1898 in Weeping Water, Nebraska
M: June 26, 1923 in Sterling, Colorado to Barney A. Benson
D: February 25, 1990 in Sterling, Colorado
Edward Kern
B: February 19, 1900 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska
M: ?
D: ?
I hope this information helps you prove or disprove your theory. I know
it's hard, my uncle has been researching this leg (the shortest) of our
family tree since at least 1974. The internet has helped a LOT!
In searching around for Kern/Schwalbe information I have found that there
are several groups of Kern's that have congregated in the USA after their
immigration from Germany, Prussia, Switzerland and Austria (the main origins
of the Kern family). Most of them ended up in one of the following locations:
Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Indiana/Kentucky, and
a few other obscure groups. You've probably found the same thing already
if you've been searching for them. I almost thought that the group in Ohio
was related to me since the names and locations were very similar and the
birthdates were only 10 years off (same months). Very wierd. But I'll let
you know if/when I get that additional information from the fellow in Iowa
in the next few weeks.
Best Regards,
