PHILIP KERNS DIES IN WHEATFIELD
Philip Kerns, who had been a resident of the Wheatfield community for the
past twenty-seven years, passed away at his home shortly after midnight
Saturday morning. He had been in ill health for the past two years, his
illness being attributed to heart complications. For the past week or so
he had been bedfast.
Born in Walker Township on February 28, 1868. Mr. Kerns was the son of
Adam and Sarah (McElfresh) Kerns. His boyhood days were spent in the community
of his birth. However, he had lived in several parts of this county previous
to going to Wheatfield to reside. He engaged in farmingand also served
as caretaker of the Wheatfield cemetary for a number of years. He was married
to Angeline Snyder, who preceded him in death on July 15, 1933.
Surviving are the following sons and daughters : Mrs. Hattie Longmire of
Plainfield; Clifford Kerns, Mrs. Rose Brown and Robert of Wheatfield; and
Mrs. Bernice Millis and Mrs. Dorothy Wjotysiak of Gary, and a brother,
Albert of Manistee, Michigan.
Funeral services were held at the Wheatfield Pentecostal church Monday
afternoon at two o'clock with interment in the Wheatfield cemetary.
Philip died July 6 , 1946.
