Hello:
I have seen several posts recently regarding KERN's of Va. and W.Va. I
descend from Mathias KERN via his son William KERN (b. 1756 near Easton, PA).
William married Catherine HOOVER. William had several siblings amongst whom
as Michael (killed by Indians ca. 1780's. His father, Mathias, was
administrator of his estate), George, Peter and Rosana(married to George
EAGER). This KERN family settled originally in Westmoreland Co. near Jones
Mill; William later had land in Saltlick Twp. Fayette CO. PA.
While in Martinsburg, W.VA. early this summer I stopped for a brief time at
the historical society there and was checking on my BRUNER line when I noted
the following.
From: COURT ORDER BOOK #1 BERKLEY CO.VA YEAR 1772
Page 198: Nicholas McIntire assignee Pltf.
vs.
IN DEBT
Matthias KERN Deft
Page 289: Nicholas McIntire Pltf.
vs.
Mathias KERN Deft.
Did not have enough time to pursue this Mathias KERN. Does anyone recognize
this family? My Mathias was in Westmoreland by the 1780's-always wondered if
he left Easton, PA and traveled through VA. into PA?
