Subject: [KERN-L] word of the week, updates...from listowner

Hello everyone! I have been far to negligent of these lists this semester
and I apologize. This message is going to be mostly a reminder of different
things as we've had a lot of new subscribers lately.

As always, if any of you have concerns, questions, suggestions, etc., you
are more than welcome to email me directly either here or on AOL at
. It would be to your benefit to put something of interest
in the subject line so I can see it's not spam, and don't leave the subject
line blank because I don't normally read those either. An example would be
"about the lists" or "Hi Erin" or "to the listowner" (the 3rd would be
best).

When you post your messages to the list, watch what address you use.
Lately, there have been a lot of you who send them to the "-request" address
(ex: ) but that address is ONLY to send commands
such as subscribe and unsubscribe. Make sure there is no "-request" (your
address should read ,,
, , ,
, . Use which ever address for the
list you are subscribed to). I know some of you have the "-request" address
in your address book, which is fine, but if that is the case, make note in
your address book that is the address to use for unsubscribing and then also
add the non"-request" address as well and make a note that address is for
posting:). If you mess up, and send a post to the wrong address, I probably
won't be able to forward it since I have 5 part time jobs. Also, if you
send a post to the list and you don't see it in the next 48 hours, repost
it. Rootsweb has been going through some changes and they could be down or
something.

Ok, for the good news:) I now maintain message boards for all 7 of these
lists! The types are as follows: query, bible records, biographies, deeds,
obituaries, pensions, and wills. If you have a query of any kind, use the
query board, this includes queries on if someone has a copy of the will of
one of your Black ancestors (for example). For the other 6 boards, if you
have a will, bible, biographies (you can write your own, not necessarily
have to be published), etc., then you are more than welcome to post them to
their respective board. If you have any questions, email me about it. The
links for the boards are up on the depository index for each surname. I'm
also working on getting more census info up. Note: for the Kern list, I'm
sorry I haven't gotten anything up and this list is my priority. I have the
1790 census for the Kern surname in every state it appears (and some
varients). If you want to wait for the info to get on line, that's fine,
otherwise you can email me directly and let me know who and where you are
looking for and I'll let you know what info is available, but be warned, I'm
not quick to respond right now.

Word of the week:
Ok, it's been WAY over a week since our last "word of the week", but for
this week, the word is "Illinois" so if you have any info pertaining to the
surname of the list from Illinois, whether it's your line or not, post it to
the list (see above for the correct address to use for posts). Good luck
everyone!

Erin Bradford
