Subject: [KERN-L] KERN FAMILY OF MT. CARMEL, WABASH CO. ILL. & WURTTEMBERG, GERMANY

Looking for the family KERN of possibly Simersfeld, Wurttemburg, Germany.
The ancestors we know about are Anna Marie and John F. Kern. We think their
parents were John Michael and Barbra Rathfurz/Rothfurz Kern.
Anna was born about 1850 and John Frederic was born about 1847. We are
wondering if they might have had relatives in Mt. Carmel, Wabash County,
Illinois to immigrate to. In the 1870 census of Mt. Carmel, both Anna (age
20) and John F. (age 22) show up as living in the household of another John
and Kate Kern. On that census, Anna and John state they are from
Wurttemburg. John was listed as a shoemaker.
After researching these two in Wabash County, Ill. this summer, we are
wondering if they might have been sponsored by another Kern or by someone in
the Seitz family in Mt. Carmel. The Seitz family was known to have earlier
sponsored Germans from Wurttemburg to the USA. And the Seitz family was
involved in shoemaking.
Any information would be appreciated!
