Fredrik C.KERNER/ KOERNER and Dorthea W. (?)

Fredrik and Dorthea W. (?) KOERNER emmigrated to the United States from
Germany sometime in the 1840's or 1850's. They settled in Racine Co.,
Wisconsin with their children. Sometime after coming to America, the "O" was
dropped from the name and just spelled "KERNER". Fredrik was a private for
the Union army during the civil war. A Pension record that I found, read as
follows:

"Special Schedule - Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Widows, etc.
Racine, Wisconsin. Line 17 states:

Dorothy widow of Kerner, Fredrik C.,

Company K, 16 Wis. regiment, Date of enlistment : September 1861"

No date of discharge given, most likely because he never returned from war.
His great- grand daughter, Dorothy (JONES) SORENSON, said that " he died, I
think of disease and never returned home from the civil war". Fredrik's
grand daughter in-law, Iva (BRYANT) KERNER said that George had more
brothers than just Theodore, but they scattered and George never knew where
they went. Neither Iva nor Dorothy knew any of their names. It is thought
however that there were about eight brothers though.

The "C" in Fredrik's name may stand for Clarence, as his son George's middle
name was Clarence and his grandson's name was Clarence. It seems that
Dorthea must have gone by the name of Dorothy because of the entry in the
pension record. Also her son George Clarence KERNER named his daughter
Minnie Dorothy KERNER. Their granddaughter Minnie Dorothy (KERNER) JONES
said that her grandmother Dorthea spoke German and would eat a bowl of sour
cream each morning. Minnie's parents, George C. KERNER and Agnes MÖHR spoke
both English and German quite well.

Fredrik C. KOERNER/ KERNER and Dorthea W. (?)

It is believed that both Fredrik and Dorthea were born, married and had
children in Germany. But the facts are not known for sure. Several of their
grandchildren and great-grandchildren claim that they moved to America from
Germany with several children. Some say that they had eight sons. Fredrik
died in 1862 while in the Civil War as a Union Soldier. Dorthea died in
Racine, Racine Co., Wisconsin on 26 AUG 1899.

1.. George Clarence KERNER b ca. 1840's-1850's (presumably in Germany)
He died in Racine, Racine Co., WI. He m Agnes MÖHR (d/o Jacob and Anna
Catharina MÖHR of Switzerland) on 10 APR 1878.
2.. Theodore KERNER b ca.1840's-1850's He m Belle (?)
3.. Rose KERNER b ca. 1840's-1850's she married but her spouse is
unknown. They had one known daughter (name unknown).
George Clarence KERNER and Agnes MÖHR

George was a carpenter and woodworker. He built the pews in many of the
beautiful Racine churches. They also had stables and horses.

1.. Clarence A. KERNER M.D. b 1880 and died 5 MAR 1938 in Phoenix, AZ.
He m Mildred ROZENBACK in Racine, Racine Co., WI. They had no children.
Clarence was a medical doctor. He set up his first medical practice in South
Dakota.
2.. Minnie Dorothy KERNER b 17 AUG 1882 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. And
died 10 JUL 1964 in Kenosha, Kenosha Co., WI. She m Edward JONES on 9 SEP
1907 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. They had four children.
3.. Warren Theodore KERNER b 6 AUG 1887 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. And
died 25 AUG 1925 in Waverly, Indiana. He m Iva Lenore BRYANT (d/o Idona May
(?) and Robert Preston BRYANT) 4 MAY 1914 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They had
four children.
Minnie Dorothy KERNER and Edward JONES

Edward JONES was the son of Evan J. JONES and Ann EDWARDS also of Racine,
RacineCo., WI. His family owned a 300-acre dairy farm and built a beautiful
Victorian home. (Read about their story on the JONES page.)

1.. Marvin Edward JONES b 6 JUL 1908 and died 8 FEB 1954 in Montrose,
Los Angles Co., CA. He married Elizabeth Mary Ethel "Betty" REID on 17 JUN
1935 in NY. They had one daughter.
2.. Dorothy Catherine JONES b 18 JUN 1910 in Racine Co., WI. She married
Stanley SORENSON in WI. Dorothy is a very talented artist. She was an art
teacher for many years. The SOERNSON'S had one daughter and one
grand-daughter.
3.. Alice Lucile JONES b 2 OCT 1912 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. She died
on 8 FEB 1931 at the age of 18.
4.. Guilbert Kerner JONES b 6 NOV 1916 in Racine, Racine Co., WI. He
married Lucille Jeanette MELVIN abt. 1942. He was a dentist. He d 17 JUL
1971 They had five children and several grandchildren.
