Subject: [KERN-L] My good news (and word of the week!)

Hello everyone! I am in a great mood today (first time in a few weeks
too!)! Here is why:

I wrote a letter to my grandfather's brother in Charlotte, NC last
September or October. This family has some kind of fued between grandpa
and his brothers over some issue (I don't really know what it is about),
but the other side of the family had information that I was interested
in for my genealogy. I wrote a long letter telling all about me and my
side of the family since I've been born and how my parents met, etc.,
just to get reacquainted since none of us had ever met. Well, the
months went by and no reply and I had thought that maybe there was still
some resentment on that side of the family towards mine even thought I
had talked to the wife of the great uncle and she seemed to look forward
to hearing more about me. Today, I got an unexpected, but much welcome
package in the mail....it was a 7 page letter from them explaining and
apologizing for not writing sooner. It turns out that they had
misplaced my original letter and they just found in before Christmas and
decided to write after the holidays since it had been quite a while
already. One thing I did not expect to get at all was copies of all the
information they had! Included were pictures of family I never knew
existed, info about grandfather's mother that I did not have (only knew
her name was Gertie G. Fisher and nothing else, now I know bother her
parents and her dates!) Info on a collateral line of Henry and Martha
Hunter (I have not figured out where it ties in yet, but now I know
where grandpa's middle name of Hunter comes from!), and a paper copy of
a cemetery index for the Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church in Concord,
Cabarrus Co., NC (it may be Mecklenburg Co, not Cabarrus) which I will
be more than happy to do lookups in for everyone who wants, and also a
history of the Poplar tent Presby Church! This info that they sent me
is info I have been searching for the past few years with absolutely no
luck!

I'm just wanted to share my good news with all of you. Since this has
lifted my spirits, I have decided to make this, this week's "Word of the
Week". If you have a similar story of inspiration, please post it to
the list, maybe this will help give some people in similar situations
some renewed hope! (Remember, send your posts to
where "SURNAME" is replaced with the name of the list, don't just send
it to me)

I do plan to put the Poplar Tent history up on the "Depository" (below
is the address) this afternoon since I have some free time (I should be
studying but I'm too excited!) If you want me to do a lookup on the
cemetery index (for ANY surname), just let me know and I will. It's
alphabetical so it will be easy enough to do, there are quite a few
Barringer, Bradford, and 2 Black surnames indexed (which I do plan to
put on the homepage), but none of the other surnames for my lists:(
This list was revised Sept. 27, 1985 (FYI). Bye for now!:)
