Janis--

Your posting re Kern family and a marriage to the Hoover family brings hope for my long
stymied work on my Margaret Kern.

I'm not sure that we are working on the exact same Kern family, but it seems that it
may well be the same; let me know what you think. I'm providing below everything that I
know about her in hopes that we may see if we have common interests in this Kern line.

My one 'known/suspect' Kern ancestor is Margaret Kern was born 1751 in Bucks Co., PA;
died 27 Nov 1813 in Montgomery, PA; buried at Boehm's Church, Whitpain, PA. Her
tombstone says that she was 61 Yrs., 9 mos., 11 days old at death. I don't know who her
parents were.

My Margert Kern married Henry HOOVER born 1 Nov 1751 in Bucks, PA; died 9 Apr 1809 in
Gwynedd, Montgomery, PA.; buried at Boehm's Church, Whitpain, PA.; Religion: Reformed
Church.

A possible lead on Margaret's father: A Nicholas Kern was on the same ship (Pink
Plaisance) in 1732 as Jacob Hoover, whose son married Margaret Kern.

In 1797, Henry and Margaret Hoover moved from Hilltown Township, Bucks Co., PA to
Gwynedd Township, Montgomery Co., where he bought a 200 acre farm.

He was called 'Henry' on tombstone, in church records, and most citations, but
in one he was called Levis Henry Hoover.

Loose tips/leads that I have run across:

1) Colonial and Revolutionary Lineages of America, Vol. 9 pp458/9 cites a Kern Family of
Bucks Co., PA and a Anna Margaret, daughter of Frederick Kern, baptized 5 Apr 1752.
That may be my Margaret Kern that I discussed above. It also cites the same name and
baptism date for a daughter of her brother John Christian Kern and Anna Maria. Sourcing
is given as records of the old Tohickon Reformed Church and an "Ibid pp 238-268" It
looks like an error in CRLA, but I cant' be sure which was valid.

2) Yoder, Don, Pennsylvania German Church Records (Baltimore, 1983) lists the birth of
a Maria Margaret Kern, daughter of Geo. Michael and Anna Caritas, born 29 March 1757.
Not sure who that is.

3) Conrad KERN b. 1736 Germany d. 1812 m. Mary Magdaline BILLINGS. Conrad's mother was
Maria Barbara MICHEL born abt 1700 probably in GERMANY.

The one child of Margaret Kern and Henry Hoover that I know of was: Phillip

Birth Date: 20 Jul 1782
Birth Place: Hilltown Twnshp, Bucks Co., PA
Death Date: 17 Jan 1865
Burial Place: Boehm's Ch. Whitpain, Mont Co., PA
Occupation: 1st Lt. War Of 1812
Religion: Boehm's (German Reformed) Church

Does any of this make sense to you? Is it helpful to you? Do you think that we are
working on the same family? Do you know who were the parents of this Margaret Kern?
Can you confirm the marriage of Margaret Kern to Henry Hoover?

Thanks for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Doug Linton
