I am descended from Conrad KERN from Rowan County, North Carolina. I
cannot find the name of Catherine KERN married to Joseph Walton in my
records. I only know the name of one of Conrad's four daughters but it
seems unlikely that your Catherine would have been one of them. Conrad
KERN's first child was born in 1762 and the last known child in 1789.
Most of Conrad's male children went up through the Cumberland Gap into
Kentucky, except for the youngest son Henry who stayed in North Carolina.
Henry KERN married Susanna TRAVES in 1812 in Rowan County which seems
too late for your Catherine to have been a daughter who married in 1821.

John KERN had five (5)) daughters in the 1790 North Carolina Census
(Rowan County, Salisbury District) and one (1) daughter under 10 years
old in the 1800 North Carolina Census(Rowan County). I don't have any
information on the 1810 Census. John KERN only names three daughters in
his Will made in 1823 - Esther, Mary, and Susanna. But John KERN's
wife's name was Catherine.

It seems most likely that your Catherine KERN is the daughter of one of
John KERN's sons. John KERN's Will names two sons, Peter and Daniel.
Another son, John KERN, Jr., died in 1794.

I know I have not helped you directly but I hope it will give you some
ideas to follow.
