Hi, I think my line started out spelled Cearnes or Carnes, I seen it both
ways, but my grandmother didn't like the spelling, so she changed it to
Kerns. I didn't know this when I started my research last year, & after
researching this name I've found out you can't limit the spelling to just
one way, because no one back then spelled it the same & alot of people
didn't know how to read or write.

Anyway my father was Arthur Kerns b. July 6, 1899 in Yawkey, WV, grandfather
was Benjamin Franklin Cearnes b.Dec. 25, 1866 grandmother Eliza Sutphin b.
Oct. 3, 1872, in Boone Co. WV,
greatgrandfather John William Cearnes b. Sept. 22, 1831 in Peytona, WV,
greatgrandmother Venilla Halstead b. 1837 in Kanawha Co., WV, great
greatgrandfather Henry Cearnes, greatgreatgrandmother Jane Jarrett.

I am most interested in my Uncle Elzie Kerns, black sheep of family. I
don't know his wife's name or any of his children. He lived in WV & Ohio &
died in Arizona while visiting one of his children.
