In re-checking Kern records, I discovered two Joseph C. Kern's. One was
the son of Joseph R. Kern born 1797 in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania and
died October 20, 1855 in Houston Twp., Adams Co., Illinois. This Joseph C.
was born 1829 and died March 24, 1884 in Livingston Co., Missouri. The
second Joseph C. Kern was the son of John Kern. John Kern, the son of the
above mentioned Joseph R. Kern and Elizabeth Smith, was born 1819 in
Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania and died November 27, 1874 in Livingston
Co., Missouri. John was married to Mary Kessler. So, the second Joseph C.
Kern who probably married Melvina Dawson was a grand-son and not a son of
Joseph R. Kern. The older Joseph C. Kern was married to a Margarett and
had children: Wilbur E., Barzilla, Teretta, Dowe, Everett, Prentiss,
Norman, & Orin.
