Need info on Edward Elmer Kern, born "near Fort Madison, WI" Feb. 22,
1861, d . Jan 25, 1913 in Manhattan, KS. Cannot even find "Fort Madison,
WI" -- perhaps it is the original name of present day Madison, although
unlikely I understand.

As a child he was adopted into my family and known as Edward Elmer Kern
LAIR.

He became a pharmacist, married Anna M. Mosley in Balwin, KS in 1890 and
they had a son, Leslie Edward Kern Lair, born in Topeka, July 1, 1891.

Particularly interested in finding his parents and tracing the line
back.

Any reliable help will be deeply appreciated.
