Dear Joe,

I am a researcher of all KERN(S) families of the Shenandoah Valley of VA.
Some of these roots go back to PA. I am familiar with your Jacob KERN
(1779-1843) of Kernstown, Frederick County, VA. Jacob's parents were Adam
and Esther (MOSER) KERN Sr. I published an article on this family, in The
West Virginia Advocate, Capon Bridge, WV, issue of Monday, Oct. 4, 1982
newspaper. I have extensive information on the descendants of your Jacob
Kern. Give me your home address (private e-mail) and I will send a
complimentary copy of the article. Also, I have published on other Kern(s)
families of Virginia.

I'm sure that you must know that John W. Kern, great-grandson of your Jacob,
ran on the Democratic ticket for Vice President of the United States with
running-mate William J. Bryan, in 1908. This was Bryan's second attempt to
achieve the Presidential Office, and he lost both times. In 1908, as you
know, Theodore Roosevelt won the election.

I descend from Jacob and Sarah KARNES (1738-1811) of Frederick County, VA.
Possibly he was a brother of Adam Kern (1732-1799), but we have no proof.
Descendants in my branch usually spell the name KERNS, but my cousins in
Winchester, VA spell it KERN, as you do. I have seen other spelling variations.
