Dear Mike,
I found a reference to an article in "Periodical Source Index" a great
index to published genealogical material put out by Allen County Public
Library, IN. The article was published in Howard County Roots (Indiana),
Vol. 3, No. 4 (Nov. 1992) p. 107-108. Through Interlibrary Loan, my library
got a photocopy of the article from Kokomo Howard County Public Library for
$2.30. Here is what it says:
FABULOUS FORTUNE
A Cool $200,000,000 in Holland Awaiting the Kern Heirs in America, Provided
They Can Prove Their Title Clear - As Ususal Howard County Has a Finger in
the Pie With Two Heirs
[I don't want to copy the entire article for copyright reasons so I will
just quote sections.]
"The Kern family in America came originally from Holland from 1727 to 1776
and settled in Pennsylvania. This is a matter of public record about which
there exists no doubt. That they all trace their lineage back to the parent
Kern stem in Holland is equally certain."
"It is claimed that nearly two hundred years ago, the original Kern family
loaned a fabulous sum to the Government of Holland for two terms of
ninety-nine years each, which time has not expired, leaving the fortune,
swelled by accrued interest, in valuation of about $2000,000,000 . . . .
The fortune, it is claimed, falls to the heirs of a woman by the name of
Gildner who married into the Kern family some five or six generations ago."
Sincerely,
Daniela
