GENERAL:

This is just a general message with a couple of administrative reminders
for subscribers to the mail lists which I manage here on the
“indiana.edu” server (BEERS, GODFREY, KERN, MONROE, RICHMOND, SPICER,
STEARNS, & TINGLEY). Anywhere in this message that you see the word
ListName you should substitute the name of the surname list you are
subscribed to, i.e. if you are on the BEERS list, change ListName to
BEERS for any of the addresses or commands.

A COUPLE OF REMINDERS:

With the exception of the STEARNS and GODFREY list which have been
established longer, none of these lists have a lot of people on them.
And none of the lists, including STEARNS and GODFREY are extremely
active. It is not uncommon to go for several days without messages. If
you are worried that you may not be on the list any longer, send a
“review” message as shown further down in this message.

There have been a couple of cases lately where people on the list were
not getting mail even though their e-mail address appeared to be correct.
If this happens to you, send me an e-mail and we’ll correct the problem
manually.

When you respond to a message on the list it automatically goes to the
originator only. To send a copy of the response to the list in general,
you have to manually add the list address to your response.

To subscribe to the list:
Mail to:
Subject: blank (not read by system)
Message body: SUB ListName

To unsubscribe from the list:
Mail to:
Subject: blank (not read by system)
Message body: UNSUB ListName

To get a copy of the ListName list welcome message (lists some other
commands):
Mail to:
Subject: blank (not read by system)
Message body: SEND ListName.HI

This message will give you several other commands for these and
other lists.

To make sure you are still subscribed (if you haven’t been getting any
mail):
Mail to:
Subject: blank (not read by system)
Message body: SEND ListName.HI

Then when you get a response from the server, check for your
e-mail address. If it isn’t there, subscribe again and all will
be well.

If you need something specific in connection with the list, or have some
problem, send a message to with the List Name in the
subject line.
