not the right ancestor...his son Joseph was born 1859. Patrick would have be at least 17-18? making birth prior to 1840.

Have you looked at the Patrick Johnston family in Lockport, Niagara,
NY in 1860. There is a "Baby Johnston" male born 1 month before
the census. Patrick is from Ireland, stone cutter, and wife Ellen is
also from Ireland.
