I am looking for information on the following Johnston line:
Joshua Johnston and his wife (unknown) had nine children: six
sons--David (my ancestor, born in NC in 1802), Enoch, Jacob, Joshua,
Nathan, and William--and three daughters--names not known.
This Joshua Sr. lived in NC until at least until son David's birth in
1802. We believe this is the Joshua in the 1790 census of either
Edgecombe or Sampson counties (based on the sex/ages of the children in
the household) and in the 1800 census of Duplin Co.
Between 1802 and 1810 he moved to Horry County, SC, where he appears in
the 1810 census. Joshua Sr. and his wife both died in Horry Co., SC,
between 1810 and 1820. His son, Joshua Jr. appears in the 1820 census
of Horry Co.but then he moved to Georgia in the early 1820's, as did
most of the sons. Apparently, the sons all dropped the "t" from
Johnston about that time. At least two sons eventually went further
west to AL, MS, LA and TX, a few stayed in GA.
Any help or additional information on this Joshua would be greatly
appreciated.
