After an illness covering a period of twenty-two weeks, Mrs. William Johns Sr., died at midnight at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. B. Hurt, 745 Ninth St. She was taken ill last winter with a complication of diseases and her condition during the month or two has been so serious as to cause her family to momentarily expect her death.
Mrs. Johns, who maiden name was Lydia Ann Bankus, was born on Dec. 15 1856 at Rington, PA. Thus she was 65 years , 6 months, and 10 days old at the time of her death. She grew to young womanhood in the east and on January 15 1874 she was united in marriage with William Johns.
Four years after their marriage the Johns family came to La Salle to make their home and this city has been their residence since.
Seven children were born to the couple, five of whom survive. They are Charles, Richard and William Johns, Jr, and Mrs. W. B. Hurst and Mrs. I. W. Smith. With the exception of Mrs. Smith, who is a resident of California, all the children live in La Salle. The husband also survives. Mrs. Johns has a brother and a sister in Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon. The body will be taken from the Hurst home to the Baptist church, where the Rev. W. J. R. Simmons will be in charge of the service at 2:30 PM. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery.
