Looking for info on the Florida family of Johns. Mine are from Covington Co., AL but were in Florida before coming to AL. Have been trying to link the 2 families together. If anyone has info they would like to share sure would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Janice Johns Johnson

Titus, AL

Subject: [JOHNS] Jeremiah Johns, Soldier's App. for Pension (abstract by Cliff Johns)

On 10Nov1903 in Hamilton Co, Fl personally appeared Jeremiah Johns who
enlisted 15Nov1862 in Captain Clinch's Company J, county of Charlton, Ga.,
mustered out honorably at Fort McAllister Ga 13Dec1864. He was "wounded by
having
arm broken, and shot in the left side and in the forehead from which he lost
the sight of my right eye. Was taken prisoner and discharged from said prison
(Ft Deleware) the latter part of May or 1st June 1865." Jeremiah "his X mark"
Johns, PO address King, Fla. (I believe this is near Marion Station in
Hamilton Co Fl as many of the King family lived there as did the Johns family).

This Jeremiah Johns was born 29Mar1847 in Charlton Co Ga, was 57 years old,
and had evidently moved south to join family. Then on 29JUl1909 under the act
of 1909 he reapplied declaring that he was 62 years old, had enlisted in
Charlton Ga, had been a resident of Hamiton Co Fl since Nov1872, reiterating
enlistment, prisoner status at Ft Deleware, and muster out date.

He made application for increase in pension in Mar1914 at Jasper, Fl at age
67 and with difficulty signed his own name (with one mistake) RFD #1 Box 52
Genoa Florida and stated he suffered fromChrome's disease and rheumatism with
two doctors attesting to the fact.

This Jeremiah Johns (there are several, at least 3) birth date is closest to
the son of Andrew McClellan Johns and Margaret Ivy in my data base. I am
asking for help her from all those who have a Jeremiah Johns in your family.
Vera Mallon and Burt Johns worked on this problem for years but both suddenly
passed away about a year ago. Burt wrote a book which I am trying to obtain, and

Vera sent me some snail mail which I will dig out, but she would not send me
a disc. They were working on the Jeremiah b. 1788 mostly. Anyone with info
on this please respond.
