Regarding your inquiry regarding Elise Tate, daughter of Drs. Leland and
Mildred Tate, I must say I do not have any contact with her, but will
ask for you if someone does. I do not know what her interest in
genealogy may be, nor what may have become of Leland's research
materials.

Regarding the Tate family research, I would encourage you to join the
Russell Co. List, and post your inquiries on all this there, as you will
find other Tate researchers, too. Jim

Sorry, but I forgot to ask something else: do you know Elise, Leland's
daughter? I've wondered if she is involved in genealogy at all. Also,
I've wondered if she has any information that Leland may have come
across indicating the history of the Tate family prior to Col. John Tate
and his apparent brother, Robert Tate Jr. (my gggggg grandfather).

Dave,

I am going to share your note below with the Jessee List and
hope someone out there can better help you locate Paul Jessee. He is not
directly involved with this Jessee Web site, but we have lots of
connections to others. I do not have contact with Paul, that I know of.
Because of the cemetery restoration work to which you refer, I hope JC
Jessee or Vernon Salyers might be able to help you.

Leland Tate is my cousin who got me started in Jessee genealogy
some 40 years ago, and to whom I owe all my beginnings. I visited Leland
and his wife Mildred Tate in Blacksburg, VA several times, and his
sisters in Lebanon where the ones to first show me the John Jessee Jr.
home and lands in Reeds Valley. Leland's grandfather, Ephraim Jessee,
and my great-grandfather, John Tivis Jessee, were brothers who fought in
the Civil War together, along with younger brother Timothy who died of
wounds received at Cold Harbor.

I hope someone can get this message to Paul Jessee for you.

My name's Dave Tate and my family lived in Big Moccasin in Russell, Co.,

for a very long time, until the family farm was sold in the 1960's ( I
believe it was). My father was Zed Tate. I was recently there, and saw
that an old Tate Cemetery on Clinch Mountain had been cleaned up.
Previously, it was a terrible, overgrown mess. Some local folks said
that "Paul Jessee" and about 20 people have been cleaning it up. Do you
have contact with Paul? I would like to reach him. My cousin, Leland
Burdine Tate, was related to the Jessee family through his mother, I
believe. I have thought that Paul may be involved in this Jessee website

that I have seen before.
