Some have indicated that history indicates that Sally Hemings and Martha Wayles
Jefferson were half sisters, descendants of John Wayles. Some have stated
otherwise because they have done their careful research.

A new book just out, "Anatomy of a Scandal, Thomas Jefferson and the Sally Story"

lies. Dr. & Mrs. James McMurry have spent years on researching the issue and have
concluded that there is NO truth to the early political lies and they name the
culprits who spread the rumors and WHY.

latest scholarly report that greatly is at odds with the Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Foundation (Monticello owners), Report. The TJMF Report was basically an in house
report of Monticello employees, chaired by an oral history historian hired to
research ORAL history. The SC Report was 13 independent and well known professors
from across the nation. BOTTOM line: ALWAYS get a second opinion in important
matters whether in medicine or HISTORY. The descendants of Thomas Jefferson (the
Monticello Assn.), on May 5, 2002 voted overwhelmingly to disallow the Hemings
membership because they had proven no relationship. The Hemings even deny
permission to perform a DNA test on their ancestral uncle, William Hemings,
because they are HAPPY with their oral history which just happens to be
financially viable.
